I think it is safe to say the 28th International Conference in Hong Kong was a great success, certainly the feedback we have received from those of you who made it to the City of Life and from the overall atmosphere during the four days delegates appeared to have enjoyed the whole experience.

The results of the election for the Executive Board and President-Elect for 2011 to 2013 was announced at the Annual General Meeting held on Friday, 16th September 2011.  The votes were independently counted on 26th August 2011 by Mr Brian Phelan, Chartered Accountant.

The signing of the ISQua - URC Collaborative Agreement
The signing of the ISQua - URC Collaborative Agreement

On 16th September 2011, a collaborative agreement between ISQua and University Research Co., Quality & Performance Institute (URC/QPI) was signed by Ms Roisin Boland, CEO of ISQua and Dr M. Rashad Massoud, Senior Vice President of URC/QPI.  The purpose of this agreement is to set a framework to work together to improve health care in low and middle income economies.

Fifteen healthcare professionals received scholarships to attend the conference in Hong Kong. For many of the recipients this was their first ISQua Conference and visit to Hong Kong. One of our scholarship recipients, Mr Jaime Acosta Gomez has kindly reported back on his experience.

A recording of an interview of Planetree's President, Susan Frampton, conducted by Karen Luxford is available for viewing from today on the ISQua Knowledge Portal.  Ms Frampton is also available on the Portal for online discussions until 6th November 2011.

 

Safe practices and clinical excellence are no longer the exclusive determinants of quality in healthcare.  The broader definition of quality being embraced by healthcare providers and policy makers worldwide also includes patient-centeredness, defined by the Institute of Medicine as “…providing care that is respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs, and values and ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions…” [1]
