This year's conference saw a significant increase to our social media activities during the conference with attendees actively tweeting and retweeting content. The use of Symplur Live on the plasma screens at our stand, which showed real time data of tweets, tweeters and discussion points in a user-friendly manner, helped keep the momentum going and pushed more delegates to take part.

More than 1,200 delegates gathered from 67 countries at the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua)'s 33rd International Conference last week in Tokyo, Japan to discuss the current and future states of healthcare quality across the world. The impact and discussion was broad and deep with more than 300 presentations along eight tracks organized around: cost of quality at the system; improvement science for quality and safety; external evaluation systems; using education to support quality improvement; person centered care; health information technology; care across the continuum; and quality care in developing countries and for vulnerable populations.

Membership Update for 2016
We would like to express a special thank you to all for your support and loyalty during 2016.  Our Members are the bedrock of ISQua and it is with this in mind that a priority for ISQua in 2017 is our Members. We plan to focus on developing our networks including networks focused on quality improvement, policy and research.  We are also developing a new website which will include a richer experience delivering a more focused experience.

International Accreditation Programme (IAP)
As many of you may be aware we are currently undergoing a re-branding process with the International Accreditation Programme (IAP). Under European Union (EU) legislation [Regulation (EC) No. 765 / 2008] there can only be one accreditation body per EU member state and accreditation must be carried out by a public body. As ISQua is based in Ireland and is not the only body offering an accreditation service (nor are we a public service), we have been asked to change our name to reflect this.

As 2016 draws to a close, there are currently 482 participants enrolled in the Fellowship Programme, representing 65 countries around the globe.  2016 was particularly rewarding year for the Fellowship Programme as it has seen a 55% increase in participant numbers.

It was a great privilege to be invited by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to Iran in November 2016.  The purpose of this mission was to examine the different interventions to establish a health care accreditation programme and highlight the strengths, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
