The ISQua Fellowship Programme was launched at the 2012 Geneva Conference. It was promoted as a ‘Learner Led’ professional development programme that emphasised relevance and allowed flexibility. It was based initially on webinars and a small number of case studies.

Following a recent ISQua webinar by Professor Glenn Robert on the topic of using the ‘Experience-based Co-design’ approach to improve the quality of health care services, a new report published by King’s College London provides an up to date overview of the spread of the approach and lessons learnt to date. Through an online survey and follow-up telephone interviews, the research team found that at least 59 EBCD projects had been implemented in 6 countries worldwide during the period 2005-2013; a further 27 projects were in planning at the time of the survey.

Having qualified as a doctor in 2007 I pursued a career in surgery for a number of years. Over time, however, it became increasingly apparent to me that the activities in which I was involved were predominantly reactive in nature. I thus sought out alternative career pathways, and am presently working in a health technology assessment (HTA) unit prior to taking up a training post in public health this summer.

Overview of a study of hospital quality management in seven countries

Oxford University Press have provided advanced access to the DUQuE Study. The following is an excerpt from the article which will be published in the April 2014 26 (2) Edition of the International Journal for Quality in Health Care.

Introduction and Objective 
This paper provides an overview of the DUQuE (Deepening our Understanding of Quality Improvement in Europe) project, the first study across multiple countries of the European Union (EU) to assess relationships between quality management and patient outcomes at EU level. The paper describes the conceptual framework and methods applied, highlighting the novel features of this study.

Design 
DUQuE was designed as a multi-level cross-sectional study with data collection at hospital, pathway, professional and patient level in eight countries.

Master in Law from the University of Geneva, Christian started in the Healthcare industry in Switzerland by grouping all the actors of the pharmaceutical chain – from manufacturers to providers. In that context, he contributed to the modernisation of the narcotic control with the Federal Office for Public Health – which applied the extensive use of the GS1 international standards (formerly EAN.UCC).

Resilient Health Care Net Summer Meeting
“Health is more than the absence of disease” “Safety is more than the absence of risk”
 
The Resilient Health Care Net (RHCN) is a non-commercial collaboration of an international group of researchers and practitioners with the aim to apply Resilience Engineering principles in health care.

The third 
RHCN meeting will be held in Hindsgavl Castle, Middelfart, Denmark from 12th to 14th August 2014.  

The deadline for submission of proposals (a title plus a 200-400 word description of the contents) is 6th June 2014. Please send proposals to Erik Hollnagel.  Further information can be found on their website Resilient Health Care
