Hello everybody and welcome to this our 2015 International Accreditation Programme (IAP) newsletter.

We want to use this newsletter as an opportunity to keep you up-to-date with developments relating to ISQua’s International Accreditation Programme (IAP). We would welcome your feedback on the newsletter and also your suggestions for future content.

2014 Annual Report

We are pleased to publish our 2014 Annual Report detailing the IAP activities undertaken throughout the year. 2014 was another busy year for the IAP with a total of 25 surveys completed and 6 new organisations joining the IAP. On average, 2 surveys were carried out each month with April, September and December being the busiest months for surveys.

Guidance on Designing Healthcare External Evaluation Programmes including Accreditation

We are pleased to announce that the Guidance on Designing Healthcare External Evaluation Programmes including Accreditation will be officially launched at our ISQua conference in Doha, Qatar on 5th October. This document is based on the Toolkit for Accreditation Programs by Charles Shaw first published in 2004.

ISQua Collaborate

By now, many of you may have had an opportunity to use ISQua Collaborate our new on-line survey management tool which we began rolling out in May. ISQua Collaborate allows users to safely and securely share information in one unified space from any desktop or mobile device and also acts as a repository for all documentation relating to a survey.

New Guidance
In your evaluations of our 2014 IAP activities you indicated that you would like some additional guidance on undertaking a risk assessment. In the 4th editions, a risk assessment must be carried out when a rating of 1 or 2 is given to any criterion during self-assessment or by the survey team.

Revision of surveyor training programme standards

We will shortly commence a revision of the 2nd edition of the Surveyor training programme standards which were published in 2009. We hope to be in a position to consult on a draft set of standards in the coming months and to roll these standards out in 2016. So keep an eye on your inbox for an email about this! 

 
IAP terminology project
It has been evident to ISQua’s Accreditation Council (AC) for some time, that different terms, language and wording is used in the field of external evaluation and that even within the AC, members each define the terms used differently. In addition, ISQua continues to receive requests for official definitions of the terms used in external evaluation. Therefore, it was agreed that a sub-group of ISQua’s AC would take the first step and develop a list of draft definitions or terminology.

Surveyor section of website

Our surveyors are the face of and representatives of IAP around the world and we have now updated the surveyor section of the ISQua website. It now contains more information about each of our surveyors including how long they have been an ISQua surveyor, their areas of expertise and current position. A photo of each surveyor is also now included so that you can put a face to the name! 

 
Changes in membership on the Accreditation Council
2015 has seen some changes to the representatives on our Accreditation Council (AC). In February, Professor Stuart Whittaker retired from his position with the Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern Africa (COHSASA) and stepped down as COHSASA’s representative on the AC. Stuart has been a member of the AC since its initial inception as ALPHA in 1999, and was one of the first members of the Board Accreditation Committee (BAC) from 2013 to 2014.

We have also seen some changes within the IAP team this year. In March, our Accreditation Manager Anne Marie O’Brien resigned from her position to take up the role of Director of HR with Euromedics. Anne Marie was with us since 2012 and played a vital role in helping us transform our internal IAP systems and processes and in particular our evaluation activities.

Distinguished Service Awards

We are also delighted to announce that 2 of our ISQua surveyors Rosa Suñol and Paul van Ostenberg will receive distinguished service awards at this year’s conference on Wednesday morning 07 October at 09:45 am in recognition of their contribution to the work of ISQua over the years.

Surveyor Meeting

Each year a face-to-face Surveyor meeting takes place at ISQua’s International Conference. This year’s meeting takes place on Wednesday, 07 October from 12:45 – 13:30 pm in Level 1, Press Room of the National Convention Centre in Doha, Qatar.

ISQua’s 32nd International Conference

It is that time of year again and our 32nd International Conference is fast approaching. This year’s conference takes place in the National Convention Centre, Doha, Qatar from Sunday 04 October to Wednesday 07 October 2015.

International Accreditation Programme Awards
Each year at our annual conference we acknowledge the organisations who have achieved ISQua accreditation in the past 12 months. This is a big achievement and milestone for all who have been involved and particularly for the organisations themselves.
