Welcome to the June edition of our Member Bulletin!

The past two months have seen a lot of activity within ISQua - our Conference team has been busy contacting the successful abstract authors who will be speaking and presenting in Edinburgh.

Our President, Tracey Cooper, spoke at the Advisory Board for Project INTEGRATE in Berlin and the International Conference on Health Care Quality and Patient Safety; Partnering for Healthier Population and Safer Care, in Doha, Qatar.  Triona Fortune, our Deputy CEO, presented at the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences Workshop in Berne. And our Accreditation Manager, Jan Mackereth-Hill, was invited to speak at the Turkish Ministry of Health's 4th International Congress of Performance and Quality in Health in Ankara.

The Irish Medicial Times have published an interview with Tracey and our CEO, Peter Carter, on how much can be achieved in developing countries through the use of low-cost technologies and on ISQua's work generally http://www.imt.ie/features-opinion/2013/06/out-of-africa-and-into-healthcare.html.

We would like to offer our congratulations to one of our Board members, Prof Peter Woodruff, who has recently been honoured with membership (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to medicine, particularly in the field of vascular surgery and through contributions to healthcare standards.

Launch of Revised IAP Standards

I am very pleased to announce the launch of the International Accreditation Programme’s (IAP’s) 4th Edition of Standards for External Evaluation Organisations.

As you all know, ISQua is committed to ensuring that all standards that support the IAP are revised at least every four years, to ensure they reflect considered best practice, recommendations from research and support external evaluation organisations in addressing their own quality improvement frameworks. It is also important to us that we practice what we preach and are compliant with our own principles for developing standards.

Health care is one of the most important social spheres in the life of people all over the world. There are about 60 million health workers worldwide according to the WHO. Training and knowledge are the integral part of medical workers’ professional growth.

At present there are still a large number of world organizational and legal issues in health care which require further improvement.

One of the possibilities for potential professional growth is attendance at conferences where people with common interests can exchange their experience, good practice and knowledge.
