INCLUSIVE HEALTHCARE: AKAZ has started ISOSI pilot project in Sarajevo General Hospital
The prim. Dr Abdullah Nakas General Hospital in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) is the first health institution in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to start implementing the Inclusive Standards for Disabled Persons (ISOSI). This pilot project is being carried out in cooperation with the FBiH Agency for Quality and Accreditation (AKAZ), a member of ISQua. The standards will establish a higher level of quality and accessibility for patients/service users with disabilities in the hospital.
"By developing and implementing new standards that contribute to a more integrated approach to and provision of healthcare services to patients/service users with disabilities, AKAZ, as an ISQua member, is demonstrating leadership, expertise and commitment to incorporating the rights of people with disabilities into the operations of healthcare institutions", says Dr Ahmed Novo, Director of AKAZ.
BiH ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2009 and the recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in April 2017, which the Government of the FBiH adopted in June 2017. This process is important for all patients/service users with disabilities and implementation of these standards will improve access to healthcare.
